ICI is beyond excited to report on the success and confidence in the future of our latest project - in Lagos, Nigeria. We donated 5 Adaptive Bikes and trained staff from an organization in Ipaja, Lagos to bring them for ongoing programs to schools with children with special needs. This project was funded and organized through a Reciprocal Exchange Grant which is a component of the Mandela Washington Fellowship. The Mandela Washington Fellowship is funded by the US Department of State and administered by IREX. Our Nigerian coordinator is Temitope Okupe, a 2016 Mandela Washington Fellow. After assembling the bikes and training staff from Ipaja Community Link, we conducted 3 workshops at 2 schools. Both schools had "Inclusive Units" for children with a variety of disabilities. At the conclusion of the in country training, the cycles were donated to IPC. ICI will continue to advise and mentor IPC as they develop programs to spread awareness of Inclusive Cycling in Nigeria.
Help us purchase the specialized equipment these projects need by donating today. If you'd prefer to donate by check, please email or call us. We also always need donations of used or new adaptive cycles in any condition.
